In addition to caring for horses, participants should be comfortable giving a friendly smile and kind word to guests of the ranch. Part of learning about western hospitality is sharing the experiences at camp and out on the trail. Giving riding lessons is dependent on the qualifications of the applicant. Placements generally in the western United States, and are generally 4-6 months in length.

 Skills to be learned may include:

  • Care and feeding of horses
  • Interacting with guests
  • Training horses
  • Giving riding lessons
  • Assisting in building and taking down camp on guided tours in the wilderness
