Agriculture General Information
Description:
CA Education Programs specialize in training young people from around the world in production agriculture. We implement educational as well as professional programs to meet the social, political and economic challenges facing the world.

For more than 20 years we have been offering placements in the field crop, beef, swine and dairy industry.

Field crop placements are usually for one season, starting in March/April and ending in November/December. Most of these placements are in Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota. Good tractor driving skills as well as language skills are required for most placements as a lot of the communication is being done by two-way radio. The participant may gain experience in the following skills: weed identification, marketing of crops, maintenance and repair of farm machinery, seed, fertilizer and crop protection decisions, harvesting, drying and storage of crops.

Beef placements are offered primarily in western North and South Dakota as well as Montana on cattle ranches. Participants are exposed to calving during the months of February, March and April. During the summer months fence maintenance, herd health management and pasture management take place. Once fall has arrived and calves are being weaned, the care and feeding of beef cattle, ration balancing and herd management may take place.

Dairy placements are available in Wisconsin, known as "the Dairy State" as well as California, Minnesota, North and South Dakota. The participant may be involved with the following skills: Care and feeding of dairy cattle, ration balancing, pasture management, herd health management, and herd reproductive management, marketing of livestock products and livestock products.

Swine placements are available in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. These are year round placements that may involve Care and feeding of gestating sows, lactating sows, feeder pigs and finishing pigs.

I worked a lot but also got a lot of support from the people who were living and working with me. I had the chance to make good friends, explore a different culture and learn a foreign language...
