Learn About CAEP
Thirty young men and women arrived in the United States in April of 1986, marking the official birth of the CA Education Programs (CAEP).   These trainees/interns represented the countries of Switzerland, Sweden, Austria, Denmark and Germany.  They were placed in Minnesota and North Dakota to learn while working.  Today we offer agricultural exchanges in all 50 states along with thriving programs in horticulture, equine, wine and turf management.  CAEP is proud to be the largest agricultural exchange program in the United States.  Milt Smedsrud, CAEP Founder, is proud of the opportunities that CA offers young people through his exchange program.  "We hope to help the next generation better understand our global economy by learning new production methods and marketing opportunities, as well as experiencing other cultures."

Throughout the years, CAEP has remained constant in its commitment to young people in agriculture worldwide.  CAEP continues to expand international experiences that promote a global vision and unity of world cultures.

 CAEP History:

· 1985 - CA forms an international exchange program and prepares for the arrival of its first group of trainees in April 1986.

· 1988 - CAEP expands the exchange to the People’s Republic of China. This year CAEP sends 40 trainees to other countries on the Outbound Program.

· 1989 - CA goes "behind the Iron Curtain” and begins the first-ever U.S.-Soviet agricultural exchange program with six young farm managers.
