Hands-on training includes exposure to all phases of bare root production, from the tissue culture lab or greenhouse to the field and eventually to the customer. Some internships include work in propagation and nursery management. Placements are available from February and March to October. There are a few 12-month placements available.

Skills to be learned may include:

  • Preparing the soil medium
  • Propagating nursery stock
  • Culturing plants in a nursery
  • Processing and shipping nursery stock
  • Insect control
  • Trimming
