Like combining technical skills with agriculture? Precision Ag trainees may plant crops with precision ag equipemnt from merchandisers of Agronomy products and operate machinery to prepare the soil. Trainees may also apply crop protection chemicals TO crops such as corn or soybeans with a high clearance sprayer CONTAINING/FEATURING monitor equipment. This equipment guides and applies multiple products at once at a variable rate and in the correct place by soil type or infestation location garnered by GPS scouting Participants have opportunity to learn a variety of application software and operate high-tech farm equipment. Applicants must have an Agronomy degree (or similar) and advanced practical experience for consideration in the Precision Agriculture Program.
Skills to be learned may include:
- Learning software
- Taking samples to provide data input
- Compiling and inputting data from remote sensors and GPS
- Operating variable rate farming equipment
- Operation and maintenance of machinery
- Observing business practices of sustainable agriculture and economics
